Sneak Peak:

What are you most excited about?

Cameron and I can't decide what we are the most excited for when it comes to getting married? I think this picture wins! Not having to say goodbye every night is probably going to win the award! Tell us why you are most excited? Do you want to cook meals? Be able to serve the other? No more singles ward? No more first dates? Your wedding day? The great new people you get to call family (In-Laws)? Money? (actually you should probably just keep that to yourself if that is what you are most excited for.) Share your thoughts!

Fitness

Aren't we all working our hardest to look the way we want to on our wedding day? This includes having that hot bod you have been dreaming about. Therefore, I have done some research to find helpful tips to feeling and looking the way you want to. You need to be eating healthy that way you have strength, a clear mind, and lots of energy. Eating is NOT a bad thing!!!!!!!!!! We just need to be eating the RIGHT things. Do I think it is bad to eat a cookie or a brownie every so often? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Ask Cameron, I have the biggest sweet tooth of America. This is something I need to work on as well. I believe it is all in moderation. Being aware and living your life well. Also, we need to exercise. With both working in our favor, we are bound to see results. Unfortunately, we cannot start the week of our wedding, nor the month. START NOW!

My dear friend Kim has started a great blog with her research and has come to discover some awesome information. CHECK IT OUT!

I also found a website (here) with an article written by Carol Sorgen. Great tips that apply really to any workout for anybody. It reads:

10 Workout Secrets: Expert Exercise Tips

Getting and staying fit can be a challenge. For many of us, it's hard enough just to get up off the couch. So what's the secret of people who have managed to makeexercise a way of life? To find out, WebMD talked to fitness experts and successful exercisers who revealed the top tips, tricks and secrets they use to get the most from their workout routines.

1. Be Consistent

Chase Squires is the first to admit that he's no fitness expert. But he is a guy who used to weigh 205 pounds, more than was healthy for his 5'4" frame. "In my vacation pictures in 2002, I looked like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man at the beach," says the 42-year-old Colorado resident. Squires decided enough was enough, cut out fatty food, and started walking on a treadmill. The pounds came off and soon he was running marathons -- not fast, but in the race. He ran his first 50-mile race in October 2003, and completed his first 100-miler a year later. Since then, he's completed several 100-mile, 50-mile, and 50k races.
His secret? "I'm not fast, but I'm consistent," says Squires, who says consistency is his best tip for maintaining a successful fitness regimen.
"It all started with 20 minutes on a treadmill," he says. "The difference between my success and others who have struggled is that I did it every single day. No exercise program in the world works if you don't do it consistently."

2. Follow an Effective Exercise Routine

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) recently surveyed 1,000 ACE-certified personal trainers about the best techniques to get fit. Their top three suggestions:
  • Strength training. Even 20 minutes a day twice a week will help tone the entire body.
  • Interval training. "In its most basic form, interval training might involve walking for two minutes, running for two, and alternating this pattern throughout the duration of a workout," says Cedric Bryant, PhD, FACSM, chief science officer for ACE. "It is an extremely time-efficient and productive way to exercise."
  • Increased cardio/aerobic exercise. Bryant suggests accumulating 60 minutes or more a day of low- to moderate-intensity physical activity, such as walking, running, or dancing.

3. Set Realistic Goals

"Don't strive for perfection or an improbable goal that can't be met," says Kara Thompson, spokesperson for the International Health Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). "Focus instead on increasing healthy behaviors."
In other words, don't worry if you can't run a 5K just yet. Make it a habit to walk 15 minutes a day, and add time, distance, and intensity from there.

4. Use the Buddy System

Find a friend or relative whom you like and trust who also wants to establish a healthier lifestyle, suggests Thompson. "Encourage one another. Exercise together. Use this as an opportunity to enjoy one another's company and to strengthen the relationship."

5. Make Your Plan Fit Your Life

Too busy to get to the gym? Tennis star Martina Navratilova, health and fitness ambassador for the AARP, knows a thing or two about being busy and staying fit.
Make your plan fit your life, she advises in an article on the AARP web site. "You don't need fancy exercise gear and gyms to get fit."
If you've got floor space, try simple floor exercises to target areas such as the hips and buttocks, legs and thighs, and chest and arms (like push-ups, squats, and lunges). Aim for 10-12 repetitions of each exercise, adding more reps and intensity as you build strength.

6. Be Happy

Be sure to pick an activity you actually enjoy doing, suggests Los Angeles celebrity trainer Sebastien Lagree.
"If you hate weights, don't go to the gym. You can lose weight and get in shape with any type of training or activity," he says.
And choose something that is convenient. Rock climbing may be a great workout, but if you live in a city, it's not something you'll be doing every day.

7. Watch the Clock

Your body clock, that is. Try to work out at the time you have the most energy, suggests Jason Theodosakis, MD, assistant professor and exercise physiologist at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. If you're a morning person, schedule your fitness activities early in the day; if you perk up as the day goes along, plan your activities in the afternoon or evening.
"Working out while you have the most energy will yield the best results," says Theodosakis.

8. Call In the Pros

Especially if you're first getting started, Theodosakis suggests having a professional assessment to determine what types of exercise you need most.
"For some people, attention to flexibility, or balance and agility, may be more important than resistance training or aerobics," he says. "By getting a professional assessment, you can determine your weakest links and focus on them. This will improve your overall fitness balance."

9. Get Inspired

"Fitness is a state of mind," says fitness professional and life coach Allan Fine of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. One of Fine's tricks to get and stay motivated is to read blogs or web sites that show him how others have been successful. "Who inspires you?" he asks.

10. Be Patient

Finally, remember that even if you follow all these tips, there will be ups and downs, setbacks and victories, advises Navratilova. Just be patient, and don't give up, she says on the AARP web site: "Hang in there, and you'll see solid results."

I hope these help! As I find more, I will be sure to share. Start that journey to great health and let me know how it is "working out"!

Pinterest

This may sound crazy, but Pinterest has SAVED my life while planning my wedding. If you have never been apart of Pinterst, now is the time girl. It will help you create a good picture of how you want your dream day to turn out. The ideas flow from what food, flowers, dress, rings, bridesmaids, decorations, gifts, anything you need, its there to help you decide.

Define Pinterest:
"Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their WEDDINGS, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.
Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests."

Usually you have to be invited by someone to join. Message me if you do, I will invite you in a heart beat. I don't want anyone missing out on this! If you haven't already... create a board just for your wedding ideas. As you browse other people's boards and ideas, don't be afraid to pin what you see onto your board. This is not copying. The point of this website is to get "inspiration" from the beautiful ideas other people have.

A great piece of advice my dear friend Rachel gave me when talking about different things I wanted at my wedding, but was hesitant to use because my friends had already used it, was this:

"Micah, don't worry if someone has already used that idea. This is YOUR day and the only one who will be looking at your pictures or even remember will be YOU. You need to design this day the way you like it. If someone did something that you like, recognize that their idea was a good idea... AND USE IT!"

Most likely your wedding won't turn out exactly the way your friend Abby or Sally's weddings did anyway. Grab and idea here, take one from there and create YOUR day the way YOU like it.

Now that I am off my soap box, Pinterest is also going to take you to websites with even more detail and great ideas. You will find where to get that gorgeous dress you saw or how to make the DIY centerpiece that stole your heart.

Run wild and free on Pinterest now, and let the creative juices start flowing!

VIDEOGRAPHY!

Why have videography? Not everyone wants it. I vote YES! Because

a) A picture says 1000 words, but video says a million more. This is the most important day of your LIFE and you do NOT want to forget this. Video will help you remember interactions you had with people and the flow of the day. Your wedding marks a huge step in your life and you want to document it the best way possible. Luckily for you, there are a handful of great videographers out there who will make your special day look like a movie.

b) What would you give to see your Mom and Dad, or Grandma and Grandpa at their prime? Interacting with the people in their life and each other? Your children will thank you for this later.

c) Even if little things do go wrong on your special day, you know the videographer will catch all the bliss and ANYTHING looks good when put to cute music and slow motion.

Below are some links to a few videographers that I would recommend. They have either done my friends weddings or are doing my own. Click on the link or view the teaser I included below to see how the good work is done!

1. Haugen Creative

2. David Perry

3. Chris McClain

I believe 100% this is a purchase you are not going to regret!

Reception: In or Out?

Finding a reception venue can be hard. Where do you even start to look? Of course the first thing you have done is chosen a date, therefore you know if you can have an outdoor or indoor reception. If you are getting married in the more "iffy" months, April, May, June, September, October... Then you might want to check on GOOGLE (my best friend) and see the average weather patterns. Let me help you out!

April:

May:

June:

September:

October:

To find more weather forecasts for your wedding month, it helps to GOOGLE terms such as:

You obviously can never plan exactly when the best day to have your wedding is. You sure hope, pray, and give your best guess. If you are anything like me and have always wanted a summer outdoor wedding, you can get engaged in December and just have a longer engagement and wait until June. If you don't necessarily care when you get married and just want to marry that handsome devil of yours soon...then just plan according to your "average weather" and move forward!

BRIDAL SHOWS!

If you are wondering when the upcoming bridal shows are in Utah, I will keep you posted! Why are the bridal shows so great you ask?  All the local vendors will be there representing all the different things you need for your wedding. Including Cakes, Decoration, Table, Tent, and Chair rentals, Flowers, Photo booths, Photography, Videography, Jewelry, Teeth Whitening, Spas, Transportation, Honeymoon, Tux Rental, you name it! It was so helpful for me to start my planning process off my attending a few of the bridal shows. (I would recommend going to 2 different ones. Any after that are just repeats of things you have already seen and heard.)

Another great thing about Bridal Shows are GIVEAWAYS!!! Seriously that are handing out discounts and free stuff all day long. I might as well be the most unfortunate girl when it comes to winning free stuff, and the tables even turned for me ladies! I won a free engagement shoot with an amazing photographer (will be featured later) and plenty of discounts to a million other things.

Tips???

  1. Come prepared to walk! Yes, you want to look cute because you are a new bride, but it won't be worth the cute heels after you walked around from booth to booth for 3 hours. Sport the comfy wedge or cute flat.
  2. Bring a Mom, Soon to be Mother-in-law, or Friend. It is fun to make a girls day out of it and nice to have opinions other than your own. (Maybe that isn't always a plus, but it worked out great for me!)
  3. Leave your man at home. He most likely isn't too excited to go, he most likely doesn't have a super strong opinion, and your relationship is probably better off with him golfing with the boys. I brought Cam to the first one with my Mom and I. He was a good sport, sure, but did he want to look, hear, think about anything wedding for the next week? NO! Truly, leave that cutie home.
The Bridal Shows will most likely send you off right from the get-go with a bag to fill with goodies. Just throw everything in the bag and go through it all when you get home. Then you have time to organize it all into categories and throw out the stuff you don't want.

Now, go online and register for a couple shows! You won't regret it!

This is the last Bridal Show for Spring 2012. Don't worry, I will keep you posted on the next! Here is a teaser so you can see what kind of great experience you are in for. Have fun!!!
